From Miley to Mercy 3

It's stamps that are ruining your kids. Not Miley Cyrus.

<<What worries me is that the bathing suit looks like a blue diaper.

Here's something stupid that someone sent to me today.

Wait, let me say that more like a "good" parent.

EVERYONE.  LISTEN UP NOW!!!!!!!!!!!  THE POST OFFICE MADE STAMPS THAT SHOW CHILDREN DOING UNSAFE THINGS LIKE A CANNONBALL INTO A POOL, RIDING A SKATEBOARD WITHOUT KNEE PADS AND DOING A HEADSTAND WITHOUT A HELMET.  THIS IS A TRAVESTY!!!!  CALL THE POST OFFICE IMMEDIATELY TO HAVE THIS STOPPED!!!!  OUR CHILDREN MUST BE PROTECTED FROM THESE HORRIBLE IMAGES ON THESE STAMPS ON SOMETHING THAT CHILDREN NEVER LOOK AT AND NEVER WILL BECAUSE THEY DON'T MAIL THINGS AND ONLY UNDERSTAND EMAIL!!  PANIC NOW!!!!!

Now I'm going to say it like me.  ARE YOU KIDDING ME.  Is this a real article?  I am shocked and saddened at how ridiculous this country has become.  I, for one, am thrilled that they stopped production on these stamps because if my boys saw them I'd have to explain to them just what "stamps" are and why we use them. I'm not even sure actually.  The last time I sent a letter George H. Bush was in office.  Or was it Reagan.  I don't know.  Mondale?  Anyone remember him? What happens to the guys that don't win the race?  I know that Sarah Palin was some talking head on Fox but I think they fired her.  Bet they didn't do it by mail.  Was probably email.

But I digress.

Parents listen up.  This has got to stop.   You're creating a nation of chubby, pale faced babies who clearly cannot think for themselves.  What's next?  Will lifeguards at pools force kids under the age of 12 to avert their eyes if someone does a cannonball?   I keep telling you but you keep not listening.  Your kids need to be able to make their own good decisions.  Is every one going to be perfect?  NO.  But that is OKAY. It's how they LEARN!  Not from you stopping unsafe stamp production!

Let them grow.  And for the love of all that is holy and good in this world - just use COMMON SENSE.  Not media sense.  Not dog sense. Not spidey sense. COMMON SENSE.  If they are cold offer them a sweater.  If they say no, they will learn that being cold is not fun.  COMMON SENSE.  If they are hungry and all you have is apples, offer them apples.  If they say no, they will learn that being hungry is not fun.  COMMON SENSE.  If they skateboard without knee pads and they fall and bust up their knees, they will learn that busted up knees are NOT FUN.

And finally, I'd write you a letter explaining exactly how you can let go and let them grow, but the Post Office discontinued my stamps.

Saw this last week on one of the Fox News talking head shows I was forced to watch while visiting family...I honestly thought they were joking when it came on...how freaking ridiculous is this?

I admit to not listening to you tell me how to raise my kids, but only because I already did. Raise them, I mean. Youngest is 20, all four of them are self-sufficient, none of them live with any of their parental units. They had real live, breathing horses (no helmets), dirt bikes and quads (helmets and safety gear), bicycles (helmets), skateboards (no knee pads, and helmets while I was watching) and we all went swimming, including doing cannonballs! The youngest daredevil had stitches a couple times; the oldest boy and girl both figured out that running into a car on your bike, while both vehicles are moving, is not a good idea. The girls were just as prone to making questionable decisions, and learning from them (mostly).

They walked, or biked, to school without me hovering. They stayed home alone, and together, and no one burned the house down. They cooked, cleaned, did laundry, chores, and took care of the animals and each other. I am a terrible parent - all of my kids learned at a fairly young age how to shovel horse poo...I just don't have pictures because it was quite a few years ago.

We need to have drinks, next time I'm in your neck of the woods!
